The Russo Kyu Gunto Sabres were distributed to Japanese Naval officers during the Russo Japanese war and were kept in service and redistributed during the second world war. They were primarily ceremonial pieces worn by higher ranking officers to convey their status and discipline. They were never really seen in combat due to the modernity of the conflicts they were in.
